It won’t be too long before the Seattle Seahawks face off against a familiar foe.
Brian Nemhauser aka Hawkblogger reported early Wednesday morning that the Seahawks’ road opener will be Week 2 against the Pittsburgh Steelers. It’s previously been rumored that the Seahawks will host the San Francisco 49ers on opening day.
The obvious storyline regarding Seahawks-Steelers is DK Metcalf, who was traded to Pittsburgh back in March for a second-round pick. Six years ago, Metcalf caught his first NFL touchdown in the Seattle Seahawks’ Week 2 road win over the Steelers. While we don’t know Pittsburgh’s Week 1 opponents yet, it’s possible that Metcalf’s home opener in a Steelers uniform will be against his former team.
Another thing we don’t know? Pittsburgh’s plan at quarterback. At the moment their depth chart consists of Mason Rudolph, who effectively ended the Pete Carroll era in the Steelers’ 30-23 win at Lumen Field back in December 2023, former Miami Dolphins backup Skylar Thompson, and Ohio State rookie Will Howard. There have been many rumblings regarding the possibility of the Steelers signing Aaron Rodgers, and the world is still waiting with bated breath to see what will happen next.
Dating back to 2019, the Seahawks are 5-1 in their road openers, including overtime victories against the Detroit Lions and New England Patriots over the past two years.
