The Seattle Seahawks appear to be adding a little bit of insurance to their active roster as starting quarterback Geno Smith battles an injury.
According to NFL insider Tom Pelissero, the Seahawks have elevated veteran journeyman quarterback Sean Mannion from the practice squad to the active roster ahead of tomorrow’s game against the San Francisco 49ers. Smith is currently questionable with a groin injury.
“With Geno Smith questionable because of a groin injury, the #Seahawks elevated QB Sean Mannion from the practice squad for Sunday’s game vs. the #49ers,” Pelissero wrote.
Mannion is currently in his third stint with the Seahawks but has never played a down for them. He has not played in a regular season game since 2021 for the Minnesota Vikings.

A former third-round pick for the Rams in 2015, Sean Mannion is 0-3 as a starter and has completed 61-percent of his passes for 573 yards and one touchdown with three interceptions.
If Geno Smith is unable to play on Sunday, the starting nod will more likely go to veteran Drew Lock instead.
But if anything happens to Lock, it’ll be Mannion time.
The game will be played at 4:00 pm ET and will air on Fox.
