Seahawks make eight roster moves, place three on IR

The Seattle Seahawks made not one, not two, not three, but eight roster transactions on Tuesday.

Here’s the breakdown: Three active roster players to injured reserve, two practice squad elevations, one active roster signing, one practice squad signing, one practice squad release.

Got it? Good.

The three players going to injured reserve are TE Colby Parkinson, DB Tre Brown, and DB Nigel Warrior. Thanks to the modified IR rules, all of these players are eligible to return after missing three games. We got the sense from Pete Carroll’s press conference on Monday that Brown needed more time to heal from his knee sprain, and we hadn’t heard a thing about Nigel Warrior and maybe for good reason.

Those vacant spots on the active roster have been filled by WR Penny Hart, as well as CBs Bless Austin and John Reid. Hart was a surprise cut last week but he cleared waivers and was signed to the practice squad. For anyone who freaked out over the Seahawks having just four WRs on the active roster, freak out no more. Austin was a signing reported by Dave Wyman on Saturday and now the former New York Jet is officially on the team. As was the case for Hart, Reid got bumped up from the practice squad.

Lastly, CB Gavin Heslop has made it to the practice squad, having been cut last week and not signed to the initial PS. Heslop was one of Seattle’s better preseason performers at the cornerback position. TE Mark Vital, who was part of Baylor’s national title run in college basketball, was released. Seattle still has two spots available on the practice squad.

To summarize…

Added to the active roster: John Reid, Penny Hart, Bless Austin

Placed on IR: Colby Parkinson, Tre Brown, Nigel Warrior

Added to practice squad: Gavin Heslop

Released from practice squad: Mark Vital
