Seahawks Release Tight End In A Surprising Move

Just a day ago, former Seattle Seahawks tight end Luke Willson hinted at his return to the team with a message on social media.

He visited with the team earlier this week and struck a deal with the organization. Willson spent his first five years in the NFL in Seattle and has spent a total of seven years with the Seahawks.

Unfortunately, it wasn’t meant to be this time. Just a day after signing the veteran tight end, Seattle announced the team released Willson – without much explanation.

“The Seahawks released tight end Luke Willson Wednesday, a day after he signed and took part in Tuesday’s practice,” the statement read. “The Seahawks currently have two open spots on their 80-man roster.”

Even longtime Seahawks reporter Bob Condotta was confused about the decision from Seattle.

“Huh. So, the Seahawks have released Luke Willson a day after signing him,” Condotta said on Twitter.

Not long after the Seahawks announced the signing on Tuesday, star quarterback Russell Wilson made it clear he was excited about the move.

“LUUUUKKKKKKEEEEE!!!!,” Wilson said on Twitter.

It’s unclear why Seattle signed Willson to a new deal and then released him just a day later. He had to pass a physical to sign with the team in the first place. Injury can likely be ruled out in that case.

Perhaps we’ll find out in the near future why he was released.
