Seahawks Reportedly Reach An Agreement With Duane Brown

The Seattle Seahawks found themselves embroiled in contract disputes with a pair of important contributors this offseason. The team already took care of safety Jamal Adams a few weeks ago, but hadn’t gotten offensive lineman Duane Brown back on the field with a week to go until their 2021 opener.

On Tuesday, that dispute finally came to an end.

According to Ian Rapoport, the Seahawks and Brown agreed to a restructured deal that will allow him to re-join the team just in time for Seattle’s Week 1 match-up with the Indianapolis Colts. Reports indicated that the organization will convert the 36-year-old’s per game roster bonuses into guarantees and he’ll receive injury protection for 2022 through an additional voidable year on his contract.

Brown had always expressed his intention to return to the Seahawks and had been on hand throughout training camp this past month. However, he hadn’t practiced with team at all.

He’ll now get just a few days to take reps with the rest of the first team before starting at left tackle for the Seahawks on Sunday.

#Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said yesterday that Duane Brown, who was holding in wanting a contract adjustment, would play. This is why. A common sense solution gets Russell Wilson’s blindside protector back on the field. https://t.co/7toVDIawdz

Brown has been one of the most reliable left tackles in the NFL over the last decade, so Russell Wilson will be eager to get him back on the field. The 2008 first-round pick made five Pro Bowls between 2012 and 2019 and still plays at a remarkably high level to anchor the Seahawks run game.

Seattle should have a good chance to knock off an injury-ridden Colts team this Sunday now that the roster is fully back together. The Seahawks have much higher hopes this year than a Week 1 victory, but will want to start the season off on the right foot.

Seattle will head to Indianapolis to take on the Colts on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET.
