Geno Smith’s injury has left the Seahawks with no choice but to add depth to their quarterback room.
On Thursday, Smith showed up on the practice report with a groin injury. He was listed as a limited participant.
Less than 24 hours after Thursday’s practice, the Seahawks signed quarterback Sean Mannion to their practice squad.
Mannion, a former third-round pick, has been around the NFL since 2015. In 14 career games, he has 573 passing yards, one touchdown and three interceptions.
Even if Smith is unable to go this Sunday against the 49ers, Mannion wouldn’t get the start. The No. 1 spot on the depth chart would go to Drew Lock in that scenario.

The Seahawks played the 49ers on Thanksgiving. Smith had 180 yards and an interception in a 31-13 loss.
If the Seahawks can’t pull off the upset this Sunday, that’ll really hurt their chances in the NFC Wild Card race.
