The Seattle Seahawks’ 2021 home opener is just two weeks away, and unlike last season there will be a full house of fans at Lumen Field. However, the COVID-19 pandemic is nowhere near over, so health and safety measures have been updated.

Effective immediately, Seahawks home games will require either proof of vaccination or a negative PCR test in order to access the stadium. Today (Sept. 7) also marks the start of King County’s outdoor mask mandate, which applies to large gatherings such as sporting events.

Here’s the official team statement:

In close collaboration with state and local public health and government officials, the Seattle Seahawks and Lumen Field announced today that all guests age 12 and older will be required to provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test result taken within 72 hours prior to kickoff to attend Seahawks games at Lumen Field. The Seahawks will begin enforcing the new policy starting with the team’s home opener on September 19 vs. the Tennessee Titans. In accordance with current Washington state and King County mask mandates, fans and staff will also be required to wear masks at all times except while actively eating or drinking, regardless of vaccination status.

Obviously these requirements are in effect for the Seattle Sounders too. Their next MLS home game is October 3rd.

Climate Pledge Arena announced identical measures ahead of the Kraken’s inaugural NHL season.

Proof of vaccination can include showing the physical CDC vaccination card, a photo of the card, or use the CLEAR health pass app.

Proof of negative COVID tests can likewise include a printed negative test result, a photo of that test result, but at-home, self-administered tests are not considered acceptable.
