Seahawks Trade Deadline Targets: Why Second-Round Tackle Should Be on Their Radar

October 19, 2024 by Last Word On Pro Football

Seahawks trade

The Seattle Seahawks have consistently struggled to create a top offensive line unit and this year is no different. As they prepare for Week 7 against the Atlanta Falcons, the team is set to use their fourth starting right tackle, Mike Jerrell, who never played Division I football. Riding a three-game losing streak, several Seahawks trade rumors have started circulating as the team looks for solutions.

Injuries have plagued the position, with starting right tackle Abraham Lucas still on the physically unable to perform list (PUP) while backup George Fants sits on Injured Reserve (IR) after suffering an injury in week 1 against the Denver Broncos. Stone Forsythe, who has been filling in for the meantime, has severely struggled, ranking as one of the worst pass-blocking tackles in the league, and now is questionable with a hand injury. With these challenges, Seattle may look to sign veteran Jason Peters from the practice squad to take over.

The Seahawks could use some more depth on the offensive line—having allowed 19 sacks, the fourth-most in the NFL this season (behind the Cleveland Browns, New England Patriots, and Chicago Bears)— and with the trade deadline coming up, now is the time.

Seahawks Trade Deadline Target: Offensive Tackle Walker Little

The trade deadline looms at 4 PM EST on November 5th, giving the Seahawks a limited window to shore up their offensive line. One trade target that stands out is Jacksonville Jaguars offensive tackle Walker Little. The Seahawks have a recent history of dealing with the Jaguars, having already traded for linebacker Trevis Gipson in August and defensive tackle Roy Robertson-Harris just last week. Could they make it three trades in two months with a move for Little?

Little, who was a second-round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, currently finds himself buried on Jacksonville’s depth chart as the third-string offensive tackle behind Cam Robinson and Anton Harrison. With the Jaguars sitting at 1-5 and unlikely to re-sign Little in the offseason, Seattle could potentially acquire him in exchange for draft capital. Although Little might not solve all of the Seahawks’ issues up front, he would almost certainly be an upgrade over Forsythe, giving Seattle’s offensive line more stability as they push for a playoff spot. Additionally, Little is versatile enough to move around the offensive line and play where the Seahawks may need him.

Improving the offensive line is crucial if the Seahawks want to get their season back on track. At 3-3, with three straight losses, the Seahawks are at a critical juncture in their season. Their recent trade for Robertson-Harris shows the team is willing to make the necessary moves to improve. A stronger offensive line would pave the way for the running game, allowing Kenneth Walker II and Zach Charbonnet to be more effective. Additionally, it would give quarterback Geno Smith more time to operate in the pocket.

Cleveland Browns’ Jack Conklin and Tennessee Titans’ Daniel Brunskill have been among some other names mentioned for the Seahawks. Brunskill, while primarily a guard,  finds himself in a similar situation to Little. He is another potential trade target that can be used around the offensive line for the Seahawks.
