Mannion was selected with a third-round pick in the 2015 draft by the then-St. Louis Rams. Through four seasons with the Rams’ organization, the former Oregon State standout logged just one start, zero touchdowns and three interceptions.
In 2019, the QB vet was picked up by the Vikings. After Minnesota had already clinched their playoff berth, he notched second career start in Week 17 — throwing for zero touchdowns and two more interceptions.
After re-signing to the Vikings practice roster in 2020, Mannion signed with the Seahawks earlier this summer. Making yesterday’s final cuts, it appeared he was set to serve as the team’s third-string option in 2021.
That was until Luton became available.
During yesterday’s final 53-man roster cuts, Luton was released by the Jaguars, making way for C.J. Beathard as the lone QB backup behind Trevor Lawrence. The former sixth-round pick will now join the Seahawks’ roster after going 0-3 as a starter for Jacksonville in 2020 — logging two touchdowns and a whopping six interceptions.
Veteran Geno Smith will serve as the primary backup behind superstar QB Russell Wilson and Luton will take over third-string duties.
