Top 5 Playoff Contender Fits for Three-Time Pro Bowler

January 3, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Football

jamal adams release

Here are the top 5 playoff contender fits for three-time Pro Bowler safety, Jamal Adams after his release from the Detroit Lions’ practice squad. This might be the ending for Adams’ career as he came into the NFL as a sixth-round pick out of the 2017 NFL Draft. Furthermore, the former two-time All-Pro left the New York Jets to build a potentially winning culture with the Seattle Seahawks in 2020. However, Adams might have one last chance in the league after his release from the Lions practice squad.

He hoped to revitalize his career with Detroit after the Titans allowed him to join them to win a ring. Adams was active in Week 14 and 15, recording 20 snaps on three total tackles. Despite that, the Safety was one of the best secondary pieces but it’s hard to imagine he’ll ever recapture that playmaking form. However, Adams recorded 21.5 sacks and seven fumbles across his first four NFL seasons.

He admits that he regrets leaving New York as he’s going through dark days hoping for a legitimate chance. However, Here are 5 postseason contenders that could revitalize Jamal Adams after his release from the practice squad.

Top 5 Playoff Contender Fits for Three-Time Pro Bowler Jamal Adams After Release From Practice

Baltimore Ravens

The Baltimore Ravens look like lightning in a bottle on their offensive side of the ball with Lamar Jackson and Derrick Henry leading the pack. However, it was never enough to accommodate the atrocious pass defense they’ve been dealing with for the majority of the 2024 campaign. Head Coach Jim Harbaugh can’t afford to waste their talent on offense while they still need fixes in their air attack. He made the right decision elevating Ar’Darius Washington ahead of Marcus Williams, but given his experience, it might not be viable for a team that wants to win a championship now.

Meanwhile, Marlon Humphrey and rookie Nate Wiggins are the more reliable difference makers in this pass defense. Perhaps, Adams has one more strong run in his stride that could give the Ravens that last puzzle piece.

Los Angeles Chargers

The Chargers are in a good place playing for a deep playoff run under head coach Jim Harbaugh. There were struggles the first couple of weeks in the regular season but the secondary has been explosive. However, given that the depth chart is weak the safety unit behind Derwin James and Tony Jefferson, they should look for some immediate help. With Alohi Gilman, Elijah Molden and Marcus Maye on IR, they will likely benefit from a veteran like Adams to play in a situational role.

Kansas City Chiefs

The defense has been carrying the entire season for Patrick Mahomes and the rest of the offense hoping to keep the Chiefs competitive each game by one score wins at 15-1. However, Trent McDuffie and Justin Reid are the only difference makers who are making an impact to make turnovers happen. Jamal Adams could get nostalgic with the Chiefs and play at his best behind a talented defense.

Washington Commanders

The Commanders look like a hungry team that wants to make a statement this upcoming postseason. Other than Quarterback Jayden Daniels on the offensive side, cornerback Mike Sainristil has been making noise in the secondary. Jeremy Chinn is their only flier on the safety unit so they could probably benefit from the veteran presence of Adams since already bringing in Marshon Lattimore earlier this season in a trade.
