Why the Seahawks will go to the air more in 2025

The Seahawks will take flight this season despite the public promise of focusing on the run game.

The Seattle Seahawks have a new offensive coordinator in Klint Kubiak, who’s tasked with fixing an offense that was very inconsistent last season under Ryan Grubb. Second-year head coach Mike Macdonald has made it a public emphasis that the Seahawks need to improve their rushing attack, but they don’t want to forsake the explosive passing game. New quarterback Sam Darnold showed he wasn’t afraid to air it out with the Minnesota Vikings, coming in second among all QBs in intended air yards.

While we await what lies ahead with this revamped Seahawks offense, let’s use this masterful use of misdirection to focus on Seattle’s travel schedule. With nine road games and six in either the central or eastern time zones, the Seahawks will have some lengthy flights. Bookies.com’s Bill Speros crunched the numbers and found that, as usual, Seattle will be among the NFL’s leaders in distance traveled, but this time the Seahawks don’t top the NFC West charts.

NFL 2025-26 MILES TRAVELED

The 32 NFL teams will cover a total of 625,947 miles this season, averaging 19,561 per team, and 2,301 per trip. 6 NFL teams will travel more miles than it takes to go around the world.

Both the Chargers and Rams have international games in Brazil and England respectively, which means that the Seahawks are the league-leaders in miles traveled within the United States.

If you remember your unit conversions, one mile is 1,760 yards. The Seahawks therefore are set for a whopping 55,091,520 air yards when factoring in round-trip travel. Their average trip per road game is 3,448 miles or 6,068,480 air yards.

This is more travel than the Seahawks had to do last season. Let’s take a look at the last five years:

  • 2024: 25,797 miles (3224.62 average round-trip miles)
  • 2023: 31,600 miles (3511.11 average round-trip miles)
  • 2022: 29,446 miles (3680.75 average round-trip miles)
  • 2021: 28,050 miles (3116.66 average round-trip miles)
  • 2020: 28,982 miles (3662.75 average round-trip miles)

Folks… we did it again.
