Welcome to the latest edition of NHL Predictions. This edition of NHL Predictions dissects the Saturday, March 29th, 2025 matchup between the Dallas Stars and the Seattle Kraken.

NHL Predictions featuring Dallas Stars at Seattle Kraken

Head-to-Head: Stars 1-0 Kraken

Time: 10:30 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time (EDT)

TV: Victory+. ESPN+, KONG/KING5 (Seattle)

The Dallas Stars and the Seattle Kraken meet for what is essentially a two-game mini-series with games in Seattle on Saturday and Monday. The teams have met once this season, with the Stars earning a 2-0 home victory in mid-October. That game was tightly contested except for a 13-second window in which Dallas scored twice (once from Sam Steel and once from Wyatt Johnston). Dallas backup goaltender Casey DeSmith stopped 25 shots to preserve a shutout, while Seattle’s Philipp Grubauer made 21 saves.

Now, Dallas is looking to gain ground in the Western Conference while Seattle is trying to make an improbable run to steal a playoff berth as the regular season comes to a close. Can the Kraken keep their hopes alive? Find out with NHL Predictions.

The Stars Story

Dallas has been one of the hottest teams in the NHL since 2025 began and has narrowed the gap behind the Winnipeg Jets in the Western Conference to just four points, with a matchup against Winnipeg looming on April 10th. The Stars’ run has coincided with their elite forwards finally finding traction, defencemen stepping up and showing strides in development, and stellar play from goaltender Jake Oettinger.

Oettinger has been a big reason the Stars have been in games lately, helping establish a four-game winning streak since an overtime loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning disrupted a successful homestand. Johnston and Jason Robertson have begun to dominate offensively, with veteran Matt Duchene keeping up his impressive pace.

Defensively, Thomas Harley has become a breakout star in the wake of Miro Heiskanen‘s injury. Esa Lindell and Ilya Lyubushkin have been steady performers, and Lian Bichsel‘s unique blend of size, physicality, and skill has helped Dallas perform adequately. However, it is still prone to off nights and big plays.

One area where Dallas has struggled specifically is finishing games. While the Stars keep winning, they did surrender a 2-0 lead to Philadelphia before surviving in overtime. Then, they nearly blew a 4-0 third-period lead to a short-handed Edmonton team on Wednesday.

The Kraken Story

It’s been a tough season for Seattle. The Kraken are heading for another sub-.500 season without the playoffs for the third time in their four seasons of existence. Only San Jose and Chicago have fewer points among Western Conference teams.

Seattle has not been eliminated from post-season contention yet, but it is 17 points behind the final wild card spot with just nine games remaining. A win over Dallas would have debatable consequences, but a loss could end any slim hopes.

Recent performances have been slightly better as the Kraken are 3-1-2 over the last two weeks, earning points in five of six games. They also just had a decisive 6-1 win over the Edmonton Oilers on Thursday. Forward Jaden Schwartz scored twice during a five-goal second period. Schwartz leads Seattle with 23 goals on the season and is third with 45 points, trailing Jared McCann and Chandler Stephenson. The season has also seen Joey Daccord unseat Philipp Grubauer as the starting goaltender.

NHL Prediction

Dallas has had some struggles on the road and played down to its competition often this season. Seattle, meanwhile, will be playing desperately to keep its season alive and meaningful. However, Dallas’ recent roll seems to bode well heading into this game and should result in a win, although a split in the two games would not be surprising.

Prediction: Stars win 4-2.

Prop Bets of the Night

Dallas’ Roope Hintz (+220) has five goals in 10 games against Seattle, and Duchene (+260) has scored a goal in tow of the last three games overall. Schwartz (+375) has scored four goals over his last five games.
