September 2, 2025 by Last Word On Hockey

Ryan Lindgren has signed a four-year contract with the Seattle Kraken. The seven-year defenceman is joining his third NHL team.

Lindgren’s new contract is worth $4.5 million per season.

Lindgren split last season with the New York Rangers and the Colorado Avalanche. In 72 games between the two teams last season, Lindgren played in 72 games, scoring four goals and recording 18 assists. In the Stanley Cup Playoffs, Lindgren played in all seven Avalanche games, recording three assists.

In 387 NHL games, Lindgren has scored 14 goals and recorded 88 assists.

Defensive-Minded Defenceman

In his career, Lindgren has provided defensive depth to his teams. He is someone who can be counted on to be in the lineup every game, as he has played in 70+ games in three of the last four seasons.

Furthermore, Lindgren is a consistent defensive defenceman. In each season he has played, Lindgren has averaged just under 20 minutes of ice time a game. He will give away the puck more times than he takes it away. However, Lindgren is not afraid to use his body to block a shot.

Role With New Team

Lindgren is not someone who moves the needle in a big way for his new team. He will not show up in the highlight videos. However, he will play a key role on defence. Lindgren will likely play on the second or third pair, depending on the news of his team.

Another Season of Ryan vs. Charlie

It is news to no one that Ryan is not the only Lindgren in the NHL. His brother, Charlie Lindgren, a goaltender for the Washington Capitals, faced Ryan in the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Perhaps Ryan and Charlie will meet again in the playoffs down the road. If they do, Ryan will look to help his new team to victory and get revenge and bragging rights over his brother.
