The Seattle Mariners announced two roster moves ahead of Saturday night’s game against the Athletics, including activating outfielder Victor Robles, who suffered a dislocated shoulder making a catch earlier this season, from the 60-day injured list. Utilityman Dylan Moore, whose offense took a downward turn in his seventh season with the team, was designated for assignment.

Robles returns after suffering a shoulder injury in April while making a highlight-reel catch against the San Francisco Giants. He ran down a fly ball in the right field corner and caught it as he plowed into the netting over the fence in foul territory.

It was a long road back for Robles, who made headlines in his rehab stint, and not in a good way. Last week, while playing for the Triple-A Tacoma Rainiers, Robles answered a hit by pitch by throwing his bat at the pitcher. He received a 10-game suspension, which he is appealing. He can play while the appeal is pending, and he is in Saturday’s lineup as a result. In his second year with the Mariners after signing a two-year extension last season, Robles only played 10 games this season before his injury. For what it’s worth, given the small sample size, he is slashing .273/.283/.341 with no home runs and three RBI, along with three stolen bases.
The Mariners decided to move on from Moore as he remains stuck below the Mendoza line. In 88 games, he is slashing .193/.263/.359 with nine homers and 19 RBI. While he won the American League Gold Glove for utility players last season, his excellent defense was not enough in the minds of the Mariners’ front office to keep him around. Whoever picks him up will be getting a steady, speedy defender. Moore has three seasons with 20 or more steals, including a career-high 32 last season.
