Turn Ahead the Clock Night returns
Happy Turn Ahead the Clock Night to all who celebrate. The Mariners media team crafted this excellent video for you featuring current Mariners players speculating about “baseball in the future”:
Bigger. Stronger. Faster.
It’s Turn Ahead the Clock Jersey Night at the ballpark and we had to ask… what will baseball look like in the future? pic.twitter.com/M3LjvzXbdA

…which in turn created this even better nascent meme:
So relatable!
Lineups:
As a reminder, you can get a refresher/update on the current DBacks squad in the series preview here. Precious Beloved Former Mariner Eugenio Suárez gets the start tonight, while other PBFM Paul Sewald remains on the injury list, where he’s been with an oblique strain but could return to the team at any moment:
Paul Sewald is back in Arizona, working with the medical team to determine whether he will need another rehab assignment or if he’s ready to join the D-Backs. Torey Lovullo said he’s “getting extremely close.”

Josh Rojas continues to hold down the leadoff spot; Servais said the team will likely go with Rojas as the leadoff hitter against righties, while Julio will lead off against lefties. [Insert brief rant here about how the Mariners continue to put Rojas in a platoon role despite his career neutral handedness splits]. Dylan Moore continues on filling in for J.P. Crawford, holding off Leo Rivas’s long-awaited MLB debut for at least a little while longer, and Luke Raley gets the start against the righty Gallen over Jonatan Clase.
Injury updates:
- Bryan Woo and Matt Brash are both at the park today. Brash is being evaluated by team doctors to make sure he’s ready to be sent on a rehab stint after dialing his intensity up to 100%; if that goes well, he’ll likely head out to terrorize minor leaguers sometime next week. Woo will head to Tacoma tomorrow to make his second rehab start, aiming to throw around 50ish pitches. If that goes well he’ll likely make one more start, hoping to get his pitch count into the 80s, before the team activates him.
- There’s no timetable yet on J.P. Crawford other than Hollander saying he doubts it will be a “ten days and activate” type situation. However many weeks beyond the ten days it will be is unclear, but the team hopes to have some more definitive answers over the coming days.
- Dominic Canzone has started a throwing/jogging regimen and is hoping to begin a hitting regimen next week. He’s likely still a few weeks away from full baseball activities, but the team is happy with how he’s progressed already.
- One more update on Gregory Santos:
Gregory Santos (right lat) is throwing out to 120 feet. He’ll do that again next week, and then begin to shorten up and build intensity … His transfer to the 60-day IL yesterday was not due to a setback, and he’s eligible to be activated on May 24.
