The Rock rolls into the Lone Star State; Matt Brash returns
Yesterday’s resounding win by the Mariners against the Rangers encapsulated the dramatic turnaround between the two teams since 2023, when a high-flying Texas offense catapulted the Rangers to a World Series win. Instead it was the Mariners offense taking flight yesterday on the back of a strong start from their current de facto team ace Bryan Woo. Texas’s pitching has been keeping them in games, but the offense has been scuffling, something Seattle fans are well familiar with. If the Mariners want to secure yet another series win, they’ll likely need to win this game, as tomorrow’s matchup—rookie Logan Evans vs. Cy Young winner Jacob deGrom—doesn’t favor the Mariners.
Lineups:
A lefty on the mound for Texas means no Jorge Polanco in the starting lineup, which is a real bummer; Rowdy Tellez and Miles Mastrobuoni also take seats against Patrick Corbin to start.

The big news for the Texas lineup: Corey Seager is back from his strained hamstring, which should help lift a Texas lineup that’s really scuffled in his absence.

News:
The Mariners get their own booster pack in the form of Matt Brash, activated off the forever-long IL list as he’s finally completed his rehab from Tommy John surgery. In order to make room for Brash, RHP Troy Taylor was optioned to Tacoma.
In order to make room for Corey Seager, INF Jonathan Ornelas was optioned back to Triple-A Round Rock. RHP Dane Dunning was also outrighted to Round Rock.

Today in Mariners History:
- 1998 – Dan Wilson hits an inside-the-park grand slam in a 10-6 win at the Kingdom vs. Detroit. It is the first-ever inside-the-park grand slam for the Mariners, and also resulted in a rare double “Get Out the Rye Bread” call from Dave Niehaus.
