nothin like some morning baseball
After last night’s dominant win against the Houston Astros, the Mariners have a chance to win their sixth series in a row and solidify their AL West lead this morning.
Lineups:
To do so they’ll be facing off against Hunter Brown, who has not exactly had the smoothest start to his 2024 campaign. As it’s still kind of early in the season, his 9.78 ERA may seem to simply be bad luck or the result of a couple bad starts, but it’s his 5.04 FIP that really stands out. He also throws his (very bad) fastball 45% of the time, so maybe this is the guy the Mariners can really feast on. The Mariners are the only team in baseball to not allow an opposing starter to finish 7 innings, and I’d be surprised if Hunter Brown is the guy to do it.
Mariners remain the only team in MLB that has not allowed a starting pitcher to compete 7 innings.
M’s hitters seeing 4.06 pitches per plate appearance, No. 2 in majors behind Yankees (4.07).

On the Mariners side of things, we get to watch a Jerry Dipoto classic: infielder in left field as leadoff hitter Josh Rojas is going to have to content with both the grass and the Crawford Boxes. Haniger is getting the day off, so Raley will slide over to his spot in right and Urías’ will take on duties at third.
