#25 returns for #35
Everyone say a big thank you to John, who offered to take tonight’s recap because I am still mad about last night’s game. I will be making a pork roast as a form of self-care and repeating the mantra that it’s only two more games left in this curséd little ballpark until July. Maybe by then it will have grown up into a real MLB stadium, with real foul territory and everything.
Lineups:

Randy’s back! But at DH as the team continues to be careful with him with his hamstring injury. I really don’t want to see Randy battling the non-existent foul territory at Sutter Home Park anyway, so this is fine, except it does push Jorge Polanco into the field. Considering how many hot shots came directly at Leo Rivas’s tiny body last night over the fast field at Stutter Health, I am nervous about this. Cal gets a rare off-day as Garver will catch Emerson Hancock, who generates a lot of ground balls. Baseball gods, please let those balls go to the left side of the infield.

The Mariners got shellacked pretty badly by Jeffrey Springs the last time they saw him in Seattle; he shut the team out over six innings with nine strikeouts. John, I owe you a beer.
News:
He’s back! Dylan Moore, the super-utility Gold Glove player, and one of the Mariners’ hottest hitters before going down with hip inflammation, has been freed from the IL. OF Samad Taylor has been returned to Tacoma as a corresponding move.
The Mariners also claimed Leody Taveras off waivers from Texas, designating Luis F. Castillo for assignment as a corresponding move.
Game Information:
Game time: 7:05 PT
TV: ROOT Sports NW, with Angie Mentink and Aaron Goldsmith on the call and Brad Adam as field reporter. You can also see the game on MLB TV if you’re out of market, or the ROOT Sports app.
Radio: 710 AM Seattle Sports, with Gary Hill Jr. and Rick Rizzs on the call, and Shannon Drayer doing the pre- and post-game.
After finishing up this series tomorrow, the Mariners enjoy an off-day and then come back home to start a set against the Blue Jays. Friday night is College Night and the return of the beloved fluorescent caps, but you have to buy a special section ticket to get one; it’s not a general giveaway, so plan ahead if you’re building a collection of those neon toppers. Saturday night James Paxton will be in the building along with a special Maple Grove section to throw out the first pitch; read more here. And Sunday is Mother’s Day with what I think is one of the coolest and most useful giveaways of the year, a stadium-friendly clear cross-body bag.
Today In Mariners History:
- 1981 – Rene Lachemann, promoted from Triple-A Spokane, is named the third manager of the Mariners, replacing Maury Wills. Lachemann didn’t fare much better and was fired in June of 1983. It might not have been the managers’ fault with those early M’s teams.
- 2000 – Kazuhiro Sasaki picked up his first Major League win in a 1-0 victory vs. Anaheim.
- 2003 – Dan Wilson extends his hitting streak to 11 games, tying his career high.
