Some afternoon ball in the humid Houston air
The Mariners continue their 4-game series against Houston with game three tonight. After winning last night’s game thanks to a 7th-inning home run by Cal Raleigh, his MLB-lead-tying 17th on the year. A win tonight and tomorrow would result in the 5th consecutive series win for the Mariners in Houston and would go a long way to securing the season series from the Astros. After this series the M’s only have 6 more games against the ‘Stros. Every game counts.
Lineups:

Seattle Mariners
We’re getting a Bryan Woo bump day this afternoon for game three. He’s pitched in 22 previous games against AL-West teams, but only two of those were against the Astros. He’s been solid against them in his career, only giving up one hit to Dubon, Pena, Altuve, and Walker each. With his low walk rate (only George Kirby has fewer walks in franchise history through 49 starts) and low WHIP combined with Houston’s aggression at the plate, this should be a game with plenty of action.
It’s a slightly different lineup today with rest days for Tellez and Mastrobuoni. They are being replaced by Solano and Rivas respectively. Jorge Polanco is also not in in the lineup, with Cal filling in as the DH and Garver catching.

Houston Astros
The Mariners are hoping to avoid getting Framber’d today like they did back in April. It’s going to be a tough matchup for both sides as Valdez has his curveball on another level this year. It’s been one of the best in baseball, and it still is in 2025.
