Mariners Lose Pair Of Players To IL

July 23, 2024 by Last Word On Baseball

The Mariners have been busy, as many roster moves were made. Unfortunately, they’ve added two players to the injured list. Julio Rodriguez with a right high ankle sprain and is going on the 10-day IL. J.P. Crawford is also going on the 10-Day IL but with a right hand fracture. The Mariners have also recalled four players from Triple-A Tacoma. Infielder Tyler Locklear, Outfielder Cade Marlowe, Infieder Leo Rivas and Outfielder Jonatan Clase. Clase, who was optioned initially following the game on July 22nd. Lastly, they also DFA’d Ty France for assignment.

Two Mariners Players Find Themselves on the IL

Rodriguez and Crawford

During the season, Rodriguez hit .263 with 11 home runs and 37 RBIs. Crawford was hitting .204 with nine home runs and 32 RBIs. Crawford going on the IL comes the following night succeeding the incident where center fielder Rodriguez had to exit the July 21st game with a right ankle sprain. Rodríguez collided into the outfield wall while trying to make a catch and then got hurt. Shortstop Crawford became partners with Rodriguez on the Injured List due to a hairline fracture in his right pinky finger. This injury occurred  through a hit by pitch in the July 22nd game.

It’s not certain how the long Mariners will be without Rodriguez and Crawford. But both have not assisted in helping the Mariner’s recent struggles as of late. It wasn’t that long ago when the team was 10 games ahead in the AL West. This was approximately a month ago. But some unsatisfactory performances recently from the Mariners has caused some heartache for fans. Along with the Houston Astros playing well this has pushed the Mariners to 3.5 games back of a Wild Card spot in the standings. Overall, it’s an unlucky time for the Mariners to lose these two players. Especially when Rodriguez was performing better at the plate and was hitting .375/.434/.688 in July which were improved numbers from .247/.297/.327 through the end of June.
