Some news and notes on this Wednesday morning.

Good morning everyone! Let’s get to the links for today.

In Mariners news…

  • Fangraphs is doing a live watch-along of today’s M’s game with the Astros.
  • There was some more movement in the M’s farm system yesterday.

  • The M’s respond to the spread of the Delta Variant.

The Mariners announce that mask mandates will return to T-Mobile Park when the club returns home Friday, as part of the latest order from Seattle & King County Public Health.

They also announce that proof of vaccination requirements will begin with potential postseason games.

  • The Mariners are also following in the footsteps of the Nationals and Astros.

Also: All Mariners staff were informed on Aug. 20 that they are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 by Oct. 4 as a condition of employment.

  • Cade Marlowe is starting to draw notice outside of Mariners circles.

Marlowe has gotten a lot of love from opposing scouts this year. Even taking age and league into account, his approach and tools have evaluators high on him. https://t.co/cXqxBA5Qr9

Around the league…

  • It seems that the three batter minimum didn’t stop the constant churn of pitchers throughout the season.

MLB teams have used, on average, over 28 pitchers per team this season. (862 players who have pitched and 30 teams = 28.7 average.)

That’s already an all-time #MLB high (with more players set to debut before season’s end) surpassing 2019’s 27.7 per team average.

  • The latest on the top Astros pitching prospect who may or may not ever debut with the team at this point.

Forrest Whitley reported to the Astros complex in West Palm Beach to start a throwing program, the team announced.

  • The Yankees have really not gotten much out of their prized summer acquisition.

The #Yankees sit struggling Joey Gallo today. He is hitting just .130 since joining the Yankees with 61 strikeouts in 123 at-bats.

— Bob Nightengale (@BNightengale) September 7, 2021

  • In more bad news for the Yankees, Gerrit Cole was forced to exit yesterday’s start with hamstring tightness.
