Mariners Minor League Reliever To Make MLB Debut

Taylor Gets The Nod

The #Mariners have selected Troy Taylor for what would be his Major League debut.

The 22-year-old has sported an impressive ERA of 1.27 between A+ and AA this season. On August 6th, with AA Arkansas, he performed strongly against the Tulsa Drillers. Taylor struck out three batters in the ninth inning to help seal a 2-0 victory. Taylor is a right-handed pitcher who has recorded 21 Minor League saves this season. According to MLB Pipeline, Taylor is ranked 23rd among prospects. Specifically with AA Arkansas, Taylor recorded a 1.17 ERA, 16 saves, and 31 strikeouts through 29 starts. Taylor also spent time with the Arizona Fall League in 2023 and recorded an ERA of 1.74.

Taylor has earned himself a call-up to the Majors, as he has been able to pitch at a speed of 99 mph. Taylor’s most filthy pitch is his slider. Additionally, he’s dominated by keeping batters stranded at the plate while not surrendering a home run this season. With these electric numbers, it’s evident that he will succeed with the Mariners. Taylor will come in to help lend a hand with the Mariners bullpen. With Taylor getting called up, Eduard Bazardo has been optioned to Triple-A Tacoma. Bazardo was just called up from Triple-A yesterday. Taylor will be joining former Toronto Blue Jays relief pitcher Yimi Garcia in the pen.

Furthermore, with Taylor being one of the best relief prospects, the Mariners had no choice but to send someone down. Taylor was drafted by the Mariners in 2021 in the 20th round. Additionally, he opted to pitch for UC Irvine but was drafted again by the Mariners in the 12th round a year later. He’s been stellar as the closer in AA this season. The fact that the Mariners drafted him twice indicates their admiration for him.
