Unranked Seattle Mariners Prospect Has Four Home Run Game

June 27, 2024 by Last Word On Baseball

On Tuesday night, unranked Seattle Mariners prospect Hogan Windish hit four home runs for Double-A Arkansas. The seventh-round draft pick from Pinehurst, North Carolina picked up nine runs batted in and 16 total bases in the contest. Hitting home runs is nothing new to the 5’11” utility man despite a rough start to the season.

Mariners Prospect Hogan Windish Has Four Home Run Game

Player Profile

Windish played his college ball at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG). While at UNCG, Windish put together an impressive resumé, culminating in a monster senior year. He slashed .370/.485./.681 for the Spartans in 2022. Windish was drafted in the seventh round of the 2022 Amateur Draft by the Seattle Mariners. He would spend the rest of his 2022 season with Single-A Modesto. Through 30 games, Windish batted .336 but only hit two home runs.

In 2023 Windish, who primarily splits time between playing second base and first base but also gets reps at third base and the outfield, moved up to High Single-A Everett. While with the Aqua Sox, Windish’s batting average dropped to .270 but his power numbers jumped back to the numbers he put up as a senior in college. In 105 games, Windish mashed 22 home runs, slugging .507.

These power numbers were good enough for the North Carolina native to start the 2024 season with Double-A Arkansas. Adjusting to Double-A pitching has been rough for Windish. Prior to last night, he had only three home runs on the season. Despite the early struggles, his big night raised his slash line from .205/.326/.315 to .221/.340/.387.  This is the type of big night that can get a solid player like Windish back on track. He is currently an unranked prospect in the Mariners’ organization, but an evening with four home runs should turn some heads. Perhaps in the future, he could provide for the Mariners what a top prospect like Jarred Kelenic could not.
